Predator SpatialLabs View 27: 3D Gaming Redefined
The SpatialLabs™ View 27 is Acer’s newest addition to the SpatialLabs™ View Series Displays, which includes the portable 15.6-inch SpatialLabs™ View from 2021 and the SpatialLabs™ View Pro 27 from 2023. Like its predecessors, the View 27 employs head and eye–tracking technology along with specialized software to render stereoscopic 3D images (where two slightly offset images are displayed simultaneously to trick your brain into thinking that you’re viewing a 3D image). However, whereas the SpatialLabs™ View offers a 4K resolution with a 60 Hz refresh rate, the SpatialLabs™ View 27 features a 4K VA panel with a maximum 160 Hz refresh rate. Critically for gamers, this monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync technologies. Unlike standard ultrahigh definition monitors and 3D monitors, SpatialLabs™ View Displays are unique because they enable a glasses-free 3D experience for use in supported games and applications.
Here are the key specs of the SpatialLabs™ View 27:
- Panel Type / Backlight: IPS / W-LED with antireflective coating
- Screen Size: 17 inches
- Max Resolution & Refresh Rate: 3840 × 2160 @ 160 Hz (3D: 1920 × 1080 per eye)
- Response Time: 5 ms
- Brightness: 400 nits
- Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1
- Color Depth: 10 bits
- Speakers: 2 × 2.5 W

What is SpatialLabs?
SpatialLabs™ is a suite of optical, display, and real-time 3D rendering technologies developed by Acer that brings seamless 3D viewing and gaming experiences to computers without requiring the special glasses or headsets that are needed in other 3D systems. SpatialLabs™ combines eye-tracking software with modern shaders and drivers to render stereoscopic 3D images in real time, revolutionizing the way we interact with games and digital content.
SpatialLabs technology creates a glasses-free 3D effect by using a lenticular lens sheet that is integrated into a display. This lens sheet allows for the projection of multiple images that are perceived as 3D when viewed from specific angles. The technology is currently available with select Acer monitors and laptops.
SpatialLabs View 27
The SpatialLabs™ View 27 monitor starts with a 17-inch IPS screen sporting a native resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels (4K). Users can switch between 2D and 3D modes, and in 3D mode, the monitor creates two images per frame to deliver its stereoscopic effect; these two images are slightly offset from one another, and flashing them quickly makes the viewer think they’re seeing a 3D image. Because two images have to be displayed simultaneously, each of the displayed images has a maximum resolution of only 1920 × 1080 pixels.
The panel has two sensors in the top bezel that locate and track your head movements to keep the phasing between images synchronized. The monitor delivers a strictly one-person experience—someone looking over your shoulder will not see a 3D picture. The screen has an optical layer in front that splits the image for each eye that is a bit like the frame packing used in 3D televisions and projectors. The image is then refracted digitally using the sensor data and directed to the viewer’s eyes.
The View 27 comes with Immerse Audio, which uses the eye-tracking sensors to enable head tracking that in turn enables beam-forming sound, to simulate surround sound. Despite only having two speakers, the monitor effectively delivers a surround sound experience thanks to additional assistance from Acer’s AI-supported noise reduction technology that is built into Immerse Audio.
SpatialLabs TrueGame
Of course, you need the proper software and 3D-enabled content to make the 3D magic happen. Numerous games and apps, including God of War and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, are already supported for use with the technology.
By using Acer’s SpatialLabs™ TrueGame software, you can launch your favorite games in stereoscopic 3D. The TrueGame software automatically applies preconfigured 3D profiles to deliver the SpatialLabs™ 3D experience. Gamers can even customize the 3D effects in accordance with their visual and performance preferences by using TrueGame’s 3D Sense feature. TrueGame launched with more than 50 AAA titles in its catalog of hits ready for 3D enjoyment with just one click, and the list is continuing to grow.
Benefits of SpatialLabs View 27 for gaming
Gamers can take advantage of all the following benefits with the SpatialLabs™ View 27:
- Immersive Experience: With the added visual depth brought to games with 3D viewing, environments appear more realistic and immersive, enhancing the sense of being inside the game world.
- Visual Realism: 3D graphics and animations look more lifelike compared with 2D. This can improve the overall visual experience by adding a sense of depth and detail, making the game world feel more vivid and realistic.
- Enhanced Gameplay: Stereoscopic 3D means games can provide more visual cues and better depth perception, which can be beneficial for gameplay. It can make it easier to judge distances and perceive obstacles and enemies.
- Compatibility With Other 3D Content: Gamers can convert any full-screen video to 3D using the SpatialLabs Experience app. This versatility allows users to enjoy a wide range of media in 3D, making the monitor even more useful.
Which other Acer products have SpatialLabs?
As of now, in addition to Acer’s SpatialLabs View Displays, SpatialLabs technology is available in select editions of Acer’s premium laptop ranges, including Predator Helios and Aspire. The technology is also available as part of Acer’s ConceptD product lineup, with a ConceptD laptop (SpatialLabs edition) specially developed for content creators, 3D designers, and gamers who can benefit from the immersive and more interactive visual experience made possible with stereoscopic 3D content.
For developers, SpatialLabs has robust support, including documentation and developer portals, for Unreal Engine and Unity, enabling the transformation of projects directly into stereoscopic 3D with integrated interactions and bringing immersive-storytelling potential to commercial showrooms, educational centers, medical arenas, and wherever 3D content is displayed.
The Acer SpatialLabs View 27 promises to provide an immersive visual and listening experience for gamers. The entry is expected to hit shelves in June this year, with pricing varying across regions.
