Just a week after the Persona 3 Reload release date, the RPG has already sold 1 million copies and become the fastest-selling game for Japanese video game developer Atlus. Persona 3 Reload was released on February 2, 2024.

The record-setting sales aren’t the only proof that Persona 3 Reload has been an instant hit with RPG lovers. Both GameSpot and IGN have given the title a 9 out of 10 score in their reviews that highlight this installment’s superior visuals, gripping story, and emotional beats.

Persona 3 Reload Story and New Features

In Persona 3 Reload, the nameless protagonist is a high school student who has transferred to Gekkoukan High School. He soon discovers a mysterious phenomenon known as the Dark Hour, an extra hour after midnight when dangerous creatures called Shadows run amok. He also gains the ability to summon a Persona, the physical manifestation of his inner self. The protagonist joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), a group of Persona-summoning students with the mission to defeat the Shadows and uncover the truth behind the Dark Hour.

The story is a faithful remake of the original Persona 3 RPG, released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. The game was released in North America in 2007. Fans have long awaited this new and more widely available iteration, which offers updated graphics, quality-of-life features, and combat mechanics, as well as added scenes, voiceovers, and character interactions.

The revamped visuals across characters, environments, and the game’s UI are the highlight of Persona 3 Reload’s new features. According to the SEGA website, all the animated cutscenes from the original game were “reproduced from the ground up,” including the opening sequence. Unlike previous titles in the Persona series, Persona 3 Reload supports up to 4K resolution at 60FPS.

All these tweaks combine to provide an immersive journey that will keep you hooked as you juggle the protagonist's daily affairs, from attending class and building social relationships to battling Shadows and unraveling the mysteries of the Dark Hour.
