2023’s Acer Global Press Conference - Post Event
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) is now in its 28th year. This year’s event was held in Dubai and intended to discuss topics that will contribute towards a low-emission world. One major discussion topic was Four Paradigm Shifts, which include cutting emissions before 2030, climate finance agreements to support climate action, putting people and their livelihoods at the core of climate action, and including diverse groups impacted by the effects of climate change. COP participants also pledged USD $700 million to help countries manage the impact of climate change, and put steps in place to make financial aid available to countries who need it. Moreover, over 130 countries signed a declaration that includes agricultural emissions in their strategies to combat climate change.
What is the Acer Climate Lab and where is it?
Acer is known for its efforts toward creating a more sustainable future. The Acer Climate Lab took place between December 7th and December 12th at the Alskeral Avenue A1 Space in Dubai. The Conscious Technology for a Brighter Tomorrow initiative includes products and services under four main concepts.
- Concept for working: This is an on-demand subscription service to Acer’s comprehensive product range, including easily manageable upgrades, services, and repairs. It is hoped that this concept can reduce electronic waste and lessen the use of new resources.
- Concept for learning: Schools around the world are also finding ways to reduce their global impact. With Acer’s hardware and software, students can learn in a climate-friendly environment through refurbished laptops and tools.
- Concept for moving: Smart cities require smart transport solutions. Acer has developed a network of mobility stations with charging ports for its range of e-bikes and e-scooters. They are also committed to making city transportation more accessible for residents.
- Concept for living: This refers to a hyper-compatible system controlled by a mobile app, designed to boost the resilience of home through new and existing smart appliances. Users can manage their energy consumption and view the energy distribution of home appliances through the mobile app.
What is Acer’s vision for “Conscious Technology”?
Alongside an in-depth discussion with company CEO Jason Chen about Acer’s efforts to create sustainable technology, Acer also revealed new planet-friendly products at the global press conference in Dubai. Acer unveiled the Vero 16, its greenest-ever laptop made with 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic during an energy-efficient manufacturing process. With 100% recyclable packaging, the Vero 16 oozes sustainability before users take it out of the box. Its meticulous design is created with our precious planet in mind. Moreover, the RAM and storage are easily upgradeable to enhance longevity and combat limited product lifespans.
In alignment with their vision for “Conscious Technology”, Acer also unveiled eco-friendly solar power solutions to meet the rising demand for green energy. This includes a 3000W portable power station with an optional 2500W battery that could power an entire household for over 24 hours. There is also a range of 100W, 200W, and 400W foldable solar panels designed to support the growing need for renewable energy. Offering 100% clean energy, these solutions are suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
