Best Non-Legendary Pals to Have in Palworld
Currently one of the hottest games of 2024, Palworld, created by Pocket Pair, has taken the world by storm since its early access release in January 2024. It features an open-world survival environment where players can tame creatures known as Pals. As you explore the vast expanses of Palworld, you'll encounter an array of Pals, each with its unique elemental affinity and Partner Skills that significantly impact their combat abilities. While the allure of legendary Pals — with their unparalleled power — tempts every player, these formidable allies only become accessible in the later stages of the game.
This guide focuses on the best non-legendary Pals available before the legendary tier, including the top combatants, base helpers, and mounts. Through this list, we aim to equip you with a powerful lineup that ensures success until you can access those late-game legendary Pals.
Note: Besides finding these Pals in the wild, you can also acquire them through breeding. However, it's important to note that bred Pals might not inherit certain beneficial passive traits like Earth Emperor or Lord of Lightning. This introduces a strategic element to breeding, as you must balance the ease of obtaining Pals against the chance of missing out on optimal abilities.
1. Penking
- Paldeck number: 11
- Element: Water, Ice
- Skill Proficiencies: Cooling Lv. 2, Handiwork Lv. 2, Mining Lv. 2, Transporting Lv. 2, Watering Lv. 2
- Partner Skill: Brave Sailor - While fighting together, Fire Pals drop more items when defeated.
- Drops: Ice Organ, Penking Plume
- Location: Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings (Alpha Pal), No.2 Wildlife Sanctuary
Starting off on the list is one of the earliest Pal bosses that the player can encounter, found at either the Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings as a level 15 Alpha Pal or at the No. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary in its normal version. Penking, the "Pioneer of the Frozen Sea," is an exceptional Water/Ice type Pal in Palworld, with well-rounded stats in HP, Defense, and Stamina. However, where he really shines is in his role as a base Pal—a Pal you assign at the base to do work. With 2x work suitability in Cooling, Handiwork, Mining, Transporting, and Watering, Penking is a highly versatile champion base Pal that can work on myriad tasks from producing food to sustain your Pals, mining stone and ore used to produce buildings and items, refrigerating food so it lasts longer, to helping the player craft items faster. Be wary that Penking has an 8 out of 10 for food requirements, so keep your food basket and refrigerator stocked with plenty of food!
2. Fenglope
- Paldeck number: 93
- Element: Normal
- Skill Proficiencies: Lumbering Lv. 2
- Partner Skill: Wind and Clouds - Can be ridden. Can double jump while mounted.
- Drops: Leather, Horn
- Location: Falls Mineshaft (Alpha Pal), Outskirts of Mount Obsidian, No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary
Arguably one of the best non-legendary ground mounts that players can acquire early to mid-game, Fenglope is the Pal you're going to be riding for most of your game (sorry, Rayhound fans) before you get to the legendary Pals. With a base speed of 750 and a sprint speed of 1050, Fenglope's base speed is already faster than the top speeds of more than half of the rideable ground mounts in the game. Additionally, Fenglope boasts a remarkably high double jump, capable of scaling mountains effortlessly. At level 15, it acquires the Cloud Tempest skill, enabling it to rapidly cover large distances, especially when used off a cliff followed by a double jump.
However, Fenglope has its downsides; it serves poorly as a base Pal (only 2x in Lumbering) and possesses only average combat stats. Without player control, Fenglope struggles against major bosses or higher-level Pals, but when mounted and controlled, you can utilize his speed and mobility to pull off some of the most amazing kiting techniques in the game.
To ride Fenglope, players must unlock and craft the Fenglope Saddle at level 26. To acquire Fenglope, players can either capture the Alpha version (Level 25) near Ascetic Falls, or find regular ones at the Volcanic Biomes or No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary. Keep in mind that the Alpha version of Fenglope will have increased health and a bonus of 100 to their movement speed.
3. Warsect
- Paldeck number: 092
- Element: Ground, Grass
- Skill Proficiencies: Planting Lv. 1, Handiwork Lv. 1, Lumbering Lv. 3, Transporting Lv. 3
- Partner Skill: Hard Armor - When fighting together, increases player's defense and applies Fire damage to the player's attacks.
- Drops: Honey
- Location: Sealed Realm of the Stalwart (Alpha Pal), No.2 Wildlife Sanctuary
Found as a level 30 Alpha boss near the Goblin’s Turf travel marker or in its normal version in No. 2 Wildlife Sanctuary, Warsect is a Grass/Ground Element combat-focused Pal that players should get once they hit mid-game. Warsect has strong defense stats, and a Partner Skill called Hard Armor, which increases the player’s defense and applies fire damage to all of the player’s attacks. This makes the Pal a perfect front-line tank while you dish out damage from the back. As a base Pal, Warsect does actually have pretty good work suitability, notably 3x in Lumbering and Transporting, but is outclassed by Wumpo Botan.
4. Lyleen
- Paldeck number: 104
- Element: Grass
- Skill Proficiencies: Planting Lv. 4, Handiwork Lv. 3, Gathering Lv. 2, Medicine Production Lv. 3
- Partner Skill: Harvest Goddess - When activated, the queen's soothing graces greatly restore the player's HP.
- Drops: Beautiful flower, Low-grade medical supplies
- Location: No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary
Lyleen is a versatile Pal in the game, known for its ability to support players in combat with its Harvest Goddess Partner Skill that heals, and for its effectiveness in managing plantations due to its 4x in Planting. It's found in the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary at higher levels and has the Spirit Emperor passive skill, increasing Grass attack damage by 20%. This makes Lyleen a useful ally for those looking to balance combat support with agricultural tasks.
5. Faleris
- Paldeck number: 105
- Element: Fire
- Skill Proficiencies: Kindling Lv. 3, Transporting Lv. 3
- Partner Skill: Scorching Predator -Can be ridden as a flying mount. When fighting alongside Ice Pals, they drop more items when defeated.
- Drops: Flame Organ
- Location: No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary
As the fastest non-legendary flying mount, Faleris is the mount of choice before players obtain and ride the legendary Jetragon at level 50. To use Faleris as a mount, players must reach level 38 and craft the Faleris Saddle. Faleris has a base movement speed of 1000, a sprint speed of 1400, and a generous stamina pool of 230. As a combat unit, Faleris can hold its own against many of the late-game Pals, but due to its larger size, it is more prone to getting hit by enemy abilities.
As a base Pal, Faleris excels in Kindling and Transporting, earning a 3x multiplier in both. However, its size often leads to it getting stuck while in the base. Most players opt for the smaller but equally skilled at base work, Ragnahawk. Faleris only spawns at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary.
6. Astegon
- Paldeck number: 98
- Element: Dragon, Dark
- Skill Proficiencies: Handiwork Lv. 1, Mining Lv. 4
- Partner Skill: Black Anklyosaur - Can be ridden as a flying mount. Increases damage dealt to ore while mounted
- Drops: Pure Quartz, Pal Metal Ingot
- Location: Destroyed Mineshaft (Alpha Pal), No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary
Astegon, a Dark/Dragon type Pal that never sleeps, has 4x in Mining, and does extra damage to ore while mounted, is a must-include for any mining base. This monster mines ores faster than any other Pal, including Blazamut; having a fleet of these will guarantee that you finish your daily ore mining within minutes.
Aside from its amazing ore mining abilities, Astegon also serves as a high-defense unit with strong combat abilities. It is found as a level 48 Alpha Pal in the Destroyed Mineshaft, or in its normal version at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary, making this Pal a must-have.
7. Jormuntide
- Paldeck number: 101
- Element: Dragon, Water
- Skill Proficiencies: Watering Lv. 4
- Partner Skill: Stormbringer Sea Dragon - Can be ridden to travel on water. While mounted, prevents stamina depletion while moving over water.
- Drops: Pal Fluids
- Location: South of Investigator's Fork (Alpha Pal), North of Natural Bridge (Alpha Pal)
Found only in its Alpha version south of Investigator's Fork or north of Natural Bridge, Jormuntide is the best Water-type Pal in the game. It has high damage output, an amazing passive skill called Lord of the Sea, which boosts Water-type damage by 20%, and naturally comes with Water, Electric, and Dragon-type attacks. Alongside its powerful combat abilities, Jormuntide also excels in Watering (the highest in the game), making it an excellent base Pal. However, due to its large size, it can often get stuck in base. Additionally, you can ride Jormuntide by crafting a Jormuntide Saddle at level 39.
8. Anubis
- Paldeck number: 100
- Element: Ground
- Skill Proficiencies: Handiwork Lv. 4, Transporting Lv. 2, Mining Lv. 3
- Partner Skill: Guardian of the Desert - When fighting together, applies Earth damage to the player's attacks. Sometimes dodges attacks with a high-speed sidestep while in battle.
- Drops: Bone, Large Pal Soul, Innovative Technical Manual
- Location: Northeast of Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant (Alpha Pal)
One of the most popular base Pals to have, Anubis is an Earth-type Pal with a 4x in Handiwork (the highest in the game), 3x in Mining, and 2x in Transport. These stats make him a must-include for any base, as he can easily farm and transport ores, and help players complete buildings and items at an extremely fast pace. If you have 3 of these in your base, it is guaranteed that you can finish any building in under 10 seconds.
As for its combat abilities, Anubis is an amazing Earth-type Pal to have on your team. Anubis has solid damage output and a dodge ability that makes it hard to hit. The level 47 Alpha version of Anubis, available for capture in the desert area northeast of the Winged Tyrant Fast Travel point, is the only available wild Anubis in the game. It also has the passive skill Earth Emperor, which gives it a 20% boost to all Earth-type attacks.
9. Blazamut
- Paldeck number: 96
- Element: Fire
- Skill Proficiencies: Kindling Lv. 3, Mining Lv. 4
- Partner Skill: Magma Kaiser - Can be ridden. Enhances Fire attacks while mounted.
- Drops: Coal, Flame Organ
- Location: Mount Obsidian (Alpha Pal), No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary
Contesting with Jormuntide Ignis for the title of best combat Fire Pal, Blazamut edges out the fiery dragon due to its passive skill, Flame Emperor, which increases its Fire-type damage by 20%. You can ride this Pal as a mount starting at level 38, though it is not very fast. Aside from having excellent combat abilities, Blazamut also excels as a base Pal, with a 3x in Kindling and 4x in Mining. This Pal can be found at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary or in its level 48 Alpha version at Mount Obsidian.
10. Orserk
- Paldeck number: 106
- Element: Dragon, Electric
- Skill Proficiencies: Generating Electricity Lv. 4, Handiwork Lv. 2, Transporting Lv. 3
- Partner Skill: Ferocious Thunder Dragon - While fighting together, Water Pals drop more items when defeated.
- Drops: Electric Organ
- Location: No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary
Orserk is the strongest Electric Pal in the game. Its two attacks, Kerauno and Lightning Strike, are both high-damage abilities that get unlocked before level 8. Additionally, all Orserks caught at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary will have the passive skill Lord of Lightning, which increases Electric-type damage output by 20%. This Pal also possesses the Partner skill, Ferocious Thunder Dragon, which increases the item drop rate from all slain Water Pals, making it a great asset when farming for Pal Fluid. Outside of its combat abilities, Orserk excels with a 4x in the work skill Generating Electricity, the highest of any Pal in the game.
