Choosing the right horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn't just about looks—it’s about performance. Each horse comes with a unique set of stats that influence how they handle in different situations. Whether you need a fast steed for travel, a strong packhorse for carrying loot, or a brave warhorse that won’t flee in battle, knowing what these stats mean is key to picking the best mount for your journey.

Below is a breakdown of the most important horse attributes in the game:

  • Stamina – Determines how long your horse can gallop before needing a break. More stamina means fewer stops while traveling or escaping.
  • Capacity – Controls how much weight your horse can carry. Store loot in your horse’s inventory. Saddlebags increase this stat.
  • Speed – Determines how fast your horse moves. Higher speed means faster travel, but armor and saddles can slow it down. Horseshoes can boost speed.
  • Courage – Affects how easily your horse gets scared. Low courage can make it panic in battle. Armor and horsemanship can improve this stat.

Now that you know what matters, let’s look at the best horses and figure out which one suits your play style most in game.

1. Gringolet

  • Stamina: 194
  • Capacity: 288
  • Speed: 60
  • Courage: 15
  • Value: 3,750

Gringolet is the horse originally owned by Jezhek of Holohlavy before he lost it in a duel to Zavish of Garbow. You can find it at Sigismund’s camp or at the inn south of Pschitoky, where you can return it to Jezhek during the Lost Honour side quest. It’s also possible to steal Gringolet before or after the quest, but some players report a game-breaking bug if stolen early. With a speed of 60, Gringolet is one of the fastest horses in the game, making it great for covering long distances quickly.

2. Meadow

  • Stamina: 219
  • Capacity: 358
  • Speed: 52
  • Courage: 17
  • Value: 4,110

Meadow can be found south of Pschitoky, past the bathhouse, near a camp of well-armed bandits. It has a high capacity (358) and solid stamina (219), making it a good choice for carrying extra loot while still maintaining a decent speed (52). Its moderate courage (17) makes it a reliable all-around horse that performs well in most situations. It stats are very similar to Pebbles with the perk, so if you accidentally send Pebbles to the glue farm during the burning of Semine quest, Meadow is your best substitute.

3. Pebbles (with perk)

  • Stamina: 210
  • Capacity: 338
  • Speed: 55
  • Courage: 12
  • Value: 4,660

Pebbles is one of the earliest horses you can get, found at the stables in Semine. You can buy it from Groom Ballatay for 160 Groschen or pass a skill check to get it for free. At first, Pebbles is one of the weakest horses in the game, but after riding 35 km, it unlocks the Good Old Pebbles perk, boosting its stats significantly. Once upgraded, Pebbles becomes a strong late-game horse with well-balanced stats.

4. Herring (with perk)

  • Stamina: 231
  • Capacity: 288
  • Speed: 56
  • Courage: 14
  • Value: 4,910

Herring is a free horse you can get after completing the For Whom the Bell Tolls quest. You can pick it up from the stable hand in Trosky Castle. While it starts out as a solid choice for the Trosky region, it becomes less useful when you reach Kuttenberg. However, like Pebbles, riding Herring for 50 km unlocks the Red Herring perk, which greatly improves its stats, making it one of the best horses in the game.

5. Pisek Lad

  • Stamina: 194
  • Capacity: 338
  • Speed: 55
  • Courage: 23
  • Value: 4,240

Pisek Lad is a horse available in Kuttenberg City, where it can be bought or stolen from Groom Hanniker. Its high courage (23) makes it a great warhorse since it won’t spook easily in battle. With good stamina (194), speed (55), and capacity (338), it’s a well-rounded horse that performs well in most situations.

6. Kincsem

  • Stamina: 235
  • Capacity: 138
  • Speed: 60
  • Courage: 5
  • Value: 2,960

Kincsem is one of the fastest horses in the game, tied with Gringolet at 60 speed. It also has the highest stamina (235), making it a great choice for long-distance travel. However, low courage (5) and capacity (138) mean it struggles in combat and can’t carry much loot. You can buy or steal Kincsem from Groom Hanniker in Kuttenberg City. If you need a horse purely for speed, this is the best option.

7. Erdel

  • Stamina: 140
  • Capacity: 368
  • Speed: 48
  • Courage: 30
  • Value: 3,570

Erdel is a great choice for carrying loot, thanks to its highest capacity (368) in the game. It also has max courage (30), meaning it won’t spook easily. However, its low stamina (140) and speed (48) make it slow and not great for travel. You can buy or steal Erdel from Groom Hashtal at the stables in Maleshov. If you want a cooling looking black horse for storage rather than speed, Erdel is the best option.

8. Kasztanka

  • Stamina: 119
  • Capacity: 148
  • Speed: 59
  • Courage: 30
  • Value: 2,720

Kasztanka is another horse found in Maleshov, where it can be bought or stolen from Groom Hashtal. It has one of the highest speeds (59) and max courage (30), making it a good choice for exploring dangerous areas without fear of spooking. However, it has low stamina (119) and capacity (148), meaning it won’t last long at full speed and can’t carry much. If you want a fast horse that won’t panic in combat, Kasztanka is a solid choice.

Race you to the end

No matter how you acquire your horse—honestly or through a bit of thievery—having the right mount makes all the difference in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. If you’re going the stealing route, be sure to visit Boyar Stoia of Mondra near Kuttenberg city to register your new horse. He’ll charge you for the service, but with a little sleight of hand, you can always steal your money back later.

Whether you need speed to outrun trouble, stamina for long rides, a sturdy packhorse, or a fearless warhorse, there’s a perfect steed waiting for you. Choose wisely, and your horse will be your most reliable companion on the road ahead.
