High-end laptops offer the kind of power and performance the most discerning users want. And in a large number of cases, they also deliver outstanding designs to complement their industry-leading power.

But like everything else in the technology industry, high-end laptop designs are rapidly evolving as consumer tastes change and manufacturing advancements allow companies like Acer to deliver even more compelling options. For those who want the latest and greatest in laptop design, opting for a device with industry-leading power is undoubtedly one of the best ways to get it.

So if you’re in the market for a high-end laptop or you simply love computer design, we’ve compiled the following guide to help you stay abreast of the latest laptop design trends. From impossibly thin cases to the ditching of bezels around screens, these are the design features you should seek in your next high-end laptop.

Smaller bezels, bigger screens

Although laptops are available in a variety of sizes to satisfy the desires of different shoppers, the vast majority of people who want to buy high-end laptops want a bigger screen. And laptop makers like Acer have delivered on that with bigger (and better) screens with each new laptop generation.

In order to achieve that, Acer has been thinning out the bezels around screens to give users more screen real estate without having a high-end laptop take up too much room on a table. Thinner bezels allow for a more streamlined look, but can also make a previously 15-inch screen stretch to 16 inches without increasing the laptop’s footprint.

Even better, today’s displays are thinner than ever, giving Acer the opportunity to deliver thinner designs without sacrificing visual quality. And if users want even bigger screens at 17 inches, it’s possible without causing the device to become too thick.

If it’s a big screen with a great-looking display you want, now more than ever, powerful laptops are delivering.

More (and more powerful) ports

As laptops have continued to evolve, PC makers have realized that users often need to connect several accessories to their machines at any given time. And that has prompted the use of more (and more powerful) ports in some of today’s high-end laptops.

Today’s top-notch laptops like the Acer Predator Helios 300 offer a full range of ports including HDMI 2.1, MiniDP, and full USB 3.2 Gen1 and 2 support. The Thunderbolt 4 port in the Acer Predator Helios 300 also comes with DisplayPort functionality and Power Delivery. But it’s just one of many powerful laptops that can help you extend the power and functionality of your computer with ports.

Those ports also come in handy when you want to use your high-end laptop as a mobile workstation. You can connect additional monitors to the machine, plug in charging ports, printers, and other components, and generally be as productive as you would normally be in the office.

The all-important touchscreen

An increasing number of laptops today ship with touchscreens, reflecting broader consumer interest in tying together the worlds of traditional laptops and tablets.

One of the best things about high-end laptops featuring touchscreens is that they generally come with the option to use the devices both as a laptop and as a tablet by utilizing a hinge to flip the screen. With a built-in hinge, high-end laptops let you easily swing the screen around from a traditional clamshell design to one that can be used like a “tent” or laid flat like a tablet. You can also use it in presentation mode, so more than one person can view your screen with you.

Along the way, you’re able to interact with Windows with the touchscreen and tap around your display with ease. That level of flexibility and functionality creates differentiated value you won’t find in lower-end laptops or desktops.

Thinner without losing power

As the world becomes increasingly mobile, having laptops in place that can facilitate travel is becoming critically important. But at the same time, users of thinner and more mobile machines don’t want to miss out on power.

That’s precisely why so many of today’s high-end laptops deliver thinner and more compelling designs. With components getting smaller and allowing for more design flexibility, Acer can build powerful laptops that are thinner, lighter, and more mobile than ever before. And despite the lower profile, those machines are just as powerful as chunkier alternatives that in the past would have needed the additional heft to accommodate high-end components.

Major keyboard improvements

Although keyboards are often ignored in the broader conversation surrounding laptop design, they’re a critical component in high-end laptops and especially gaming laptops.

In higher-end machines, you can often customize your keyboard with different backlighting to help you keep track of the keys you care about most during a video game or while working. You can also customize your keyboard with hotkeys that can be set to certain schedules to help you be more productive.

PC makers are also investing in ways to improve the keyboard look and feel to improve your computing experience. In the Acer Aspire Vero laptop, for instance, the keys are made in part with post-consumer recycled plastic.

Designs are changing rapidly in the laptop market as consumer interest changes and new innovations allow Acer to deliver new and compelling devices. And as time goes on and more innovations develop, the high-end laptop market will likely be the first testing ground for trying out and enjoying all the great new features that become a reality.

If you’re in the market for a new high-end laptop, enjoy the designs. You’ll be happy with what you find.

  • “More (and more powerful) ports” couldn’t agree more. I am the kind of person who uses a charger, external screen, mouse, headphones, so just few ports wouldn’t be enough.
